MPWiK publishes hardness by plant and zone on twardość wody. Expats usually know their district — this table bridges Mokotów, Ursynów, and other areas to the same bands in our plant-level hardness table. For dishwasher and coffee-machine settings, use the interactive hardness finder.
District hardness table
| District | Plant / network | Typical °dH | Scale | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mokotów | Central network (Filtry / Praga plants) | ~13.5–16 °dH | Medium | Typical city-centre supply — scale on aerators and combi exchangers over time. |
| Śródmieście | Central network (Filtry / Praga plants) | ~13.5–16 °dH | Medium | Older risers may add sediment after estate work — run cold until clear. |
| Ochota | Central network (Filtry / Praga plants) | ~13.5–16 °dH | Medium | Similar to Mokotów and Wola — medium-hard for limescale, safe to drink. |
| Wola | Central network (Filtry / Praga plants) | ~13.5–16 °dH | Medium | Mix of new high-rises and older blocks — local pipe age affects taste more than plant. |
| Ursynów | Central / southern network | ~13.5–16.5 °dH | Medium | Large estates — combi boilers and shower heads need regular aerator cleaning. |
| Wilanów | Central / southern network | ~13.5–16.5 °dH | Medium | Newer builds still see kettle scale — hardness is supply-wide, not fitting quality. |
| Żoliborz | Northern plant (Północ) / northern network | ~14–15.5 °dH | Medium | Pre-war blocks — older galvanised branches can add metallic taste after outages. |
| Bielany | Northern plant (Północ) / northern network | ~14–15.5 °dH | Medium | Northern estates on Północ supply — similar scale behaviour to Żoliborz. |
| Praga-Północ | Praga plant / east network | ~13.5–16 °dH | Medium | Tenement stock — building pipe flushing can cause short brown-water episodes. |
| Wesoła | Local Wesoła stations | ~16–20 °dH | Medium–hard | Among the higher MPWiK averages — faster kettle and shower-head scale. |
| Wawer | Local Wawer stations (Radość / Falenica) | ~12–16 °dH | Medium | Varies by micro-station — confirm on MPWiK if you are on the eastern edge. |
How to use this map
- Medium hardness still builds kettle scale and clogs aerators over months — not a sign of bad plumbing.
- Wesoła and parts of the eastern edge sit in a medium–hardband — faster scale on shower heads and combi exchangers.
- Drinking safety, chlorine taste, and microbiology are separate — see tap water quality parametersand is tap water safe?
- Filters and softeners — tap filters and whole-home options.
